Reveal Imaging Technologies Receives $3.6 Million TSA R&D Contract for Carry-On Baggage Explosives and Weapons Detection
REVEAL IMAGING TECHNOLOGIES RECEIVES $3.6 MILLION TSA R&D CONTRACT FOR CARRY-ON BAGGAGE EXPLOSIVES AND WEAPONS DETECTION
Reveal signs one-year contract with TSA to develop carry-on EDS systems.
Bedford, MA, November 4, 2005 — Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc., a developer of advanced security inspection systems, announced today that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) awarded the company a $3.6 million research and development contract under Project Cambria, TSA’s Advanced Weapons and Explosives Detection System development program.
Project Cambria includes the development, evaluation, training, trial deployment and support of explosives detection systems (EDS) for the automated screening of passenger carry-on baggage and divested articles at checkpoints. As part of the contract, Reveal will develop and deliver one operational system for carry-on baggage within 12 months after contract award. These systems will enhance the carry-on baggage inspection process currently used in U.S. airports.
“TSA introduced the Cambria program to develop systems capable of increasing the security of carry-on bags and optimize the flow of passengers through the checkpoint, ” said Michael Ellenbogen, president and CEO of Reveal Imaging Technologies. “Reveal’s X-ray and CT technology were designed at the outset for security and easy integration into an airport’s operational flow. I am confident that we will deliver carry-on screening systems that will keep the public secure and the checkpoint line moving. ”
There are approximately 1800 existing passenger checkpoint lanes in U.S. airports. TSA operators at these checkpoint lanes use X-ray screening equipment to detect weapons and other threat objects in carry-on baggage and personal affects.
Once complete, Reveal’s carry-on inspection system will quickly and automatically identify suspect explosives and weapons in passenger’s hand carried bags and other divested articles.
